Ruidoso Optimists go H.O.G. Wild

When the Ruidoso Optimist Club started looking for a fundraiser, former Club President Tom McElligott had a truly unique and spicy idea. "Since we have two motorcycle rallys each year, I think we should do something that ties in with that," McElligott told the club. "I can get us our own salsa made and we can sell it." McElligott has been in the chili business for many years and guided the project from inception to reality. Thus H.O.G. Salsa was born. The H.O.G. name has obvious motorcycle connotations but actually stands for "Help
Optimist Grow."

The Optimist Club went to Comfort Foods in Albuquerque with McElligott's recipes for hot and medium salsas. Taste test of slightly different recipes produced the Hot and Medium salsas with a gourmet blend of five peppers and other natural ingredients the Optimist Club liked. The logo was chosen from a contest held at the Ruidoso High School, offering a reward to
art students with the best design. Art student Trevor Ketner's
entry clearly captured what the Opimists were looking for in
a label.

All profits from the sale of H.O.G. Salsa are donated to children/youth activities and scholarships. H.O.G.Salsa not only helps your taste buds but also helps under privileged children and youth using the slogan "Kickstart Your Meal."

You can pick up a jar or case of H.O.G Salsa at area banks,
Vac & Sew, Cozy Cabins, Ruidoso Ready Labor, the Village Bus
Station, Village Ace Hardware, Postal Annex and Seasons
Nursery. Or if your not a local just go to www.hogsalsa.com

(Note...it really is good salsa)
